How to Choose a Water Level Controller for Your Sump Pump

The right water level controller depends on the pump, starter, water source and tank arrangement. Start with those details, then compare the protection and indication features you need. Automatic pump switching alone does not mean every protection feature is included.

1. Identify the pump type, rating and phase

A surface monoblock pump and a sump submersible pump have different installation requirements. Choose a controller compatible with the pump's type, electrical rating and starter arrangement rather than choosing by appearance or enclosure size.

  • Pump type: confirm whether it is a sump monoblock, sump submersible or another arrangement.
  • Motor rating: record the HP/kW, rated voltage, current and phase from an accessible nameplate.
  • Starter: share the starter details or a photograph of the closed panel. A compatible external starter may be required.

A relay contact rating is not a motor HP rating. Do not use a 30A or 40A relay label alone to decide whether a controller can switch your motor.

2. Count the tanks, pumps and sources

One sump and one overhead tank is a different application from two overhead tanks, a sump plus borewell source, or multiple pumps.

  • One overhead tank: match the controller to the sump pump and the required level/protection functions.
  • Dual tanks: explain whether an upper solar tank overflows into a lower tank, or both tanks fill through a common pipe. The common-pipe arrangement requires suitable mechanical float valves in each tank.
  • Sump plus borewell: select source-changeover logic rather than assuming an ordinary single-pump controller manages both sources.
  • Multiple tanks or pumps: share a pipe sketch so individual tank valves, source selection and pump duty can be considered.

3. Compare suitable Sri DIGITEK® models

Use this shortlist to identify a product family, then confirm the exact supplied configuration.

Controller options by pump and tank arrangement
ModelTypical applicationKey selection points
ECO-01Economical automatic control for compatible domestic sump monoblock pumps.Confirm the required indication and protection functions; do not assume all higher-model features are included.
ULDX-01Single-phase sump monoblock pump filling an overhead tank.30A T-type relay and dry-run protection. No surge protection or extra water storage feature.
ULDX-HA-02Single-phase sump submersible pump filling an overhead tank.40A power relay, voltage cutoff, dry-run protection, surge protection, extra water storage, low-AC sensing and bypass switch. Four overhead-tank and three sump indications.
ULDX-HA-02-DTOne compatible single-phase pump serving two overhead tanks.Confirm overflow or common-delivery layout and the required tank-valve arrangement.
ULDX-ACH-MSS-03Sump pump plus borewell pump supplying a common overhead tank.Source-changeover control. Confirm phase, starter compatibility and source priority for the supplied model.
Wireless controllerTank-to-controller RF signalling where a long signal cable is unsuitable.Confirm site range and receiver configuration. Local sensor, power and pump wiring may still be required.

4. Match protection to the installation

Look for the specific dry-run, voltage, surge and restart functions your application requires. ULDX-HA-02 allows up to two minutes for delivery at start-up, then switches the pump off if established delivery stops continuously for 30 seconds while running. These timings are model-specific, not a setting to assume across the whole range.

Published controller ranges are 180–260 V AC for single-phase models and 360–480 V AC for three-phase models. Confirm compatibility with the motor and starter specifications; controller protection does not replace correct earthing or electrical protection.

What to send before ordering

  • Accessible pump nameplate details, including motor rating and phase.
  • The starter/panel model or a photograph with the panel closed.
  • Tank count, water sources and a simple delivery-pipe sketch.
  • The protections, indications or timer functions you need.
  • Your city and whether the enquiry is for a new installation or an existing system.
